LampGustaf increases efficiency with Effect Warehouse

LampGustaf AB in Sweden is the first company to select the new Effect Warehouse system from Consafe Logistics. Effect Warehouse is a new WMS system for small and medium sized enterprises that was launched two months ago. The system is expected to be in operation by the end of September 2005.

LampGustaf is one of the largest suppliers of lighting equipment in the Nordic region. In spring 2005 the company merged with Fagerhult, Scandinavia’s leading lighting manufacturer. Since the merger LampGustaf’s previously extensive portfolio has increased to being a complete range of lighting products. Their bespoke WMS system is connected to an ERP system that manages incoming goods, replenishment and picking tasks. However it can no longer cope with all steps in the warehouse process.

“We have realised during the last couple of years that our bespoke system has run its course. We haven’t developed any new functions since the system came on-line in 1998 and the requirements we place today on a functional WMS would be too expensive and difficult to add on”, comments Robert Westphal, logistics director at LampGustaf AB.

The company is currently working on extending and modernizing its premises where it will open Scandinavia’s largest development centre for better store lighting - including the Light Experience Room - in the autumn.

Several years ago, LampGustaf invested in a wireless network and TraffiCom mobile computers from Consafe Logistics. This investment has already resulted in increased savings and operational efficiency. The company has now chosen to increase its cooperation with Consafe Logistics and implement Effect Warehouse.

“In the two years that we have been evaluating different solutions we have found that Consafe Logistics’ standard products are commonly used in similar warehouses to ours. Effect Warehouse gives us all the functions that we require, plus some extras. The price of Effect Warehouse is also reasonable for a company of our size”, says Robert Westphal.

LampGustaf’s overall goal with Effect Warehouse is to increase productivity and create quality assurance in its warehouse processes by working paperless, reducing picking errors and working with continual stocktaking. Effect Warehouse also gives the company greater flexibility by controlling workflows in the warehouse and allows work rotation for the employees.

Effect Warehouse gives LampGustaf a platform for continued expansion in Scandinavia and the opportunity to expand its warehouse management for future requirements.
