Swedwood’s core business is to set up production capacity for IKEA’s furniture needs. It promotes the IKEA traditions of finding the most efficient production and distribution routines to achieve competitive prices and outstanding delivery performance. The company sources capacity on a world-wide basis. When Swedwood implemented the MOVEX ERP system from Lawson, they had two major challenges for a mobile warehouse management system: how to achieve full traceability at individual pallet level, requiring unique SSCC (Serial Shipping Container code) numbers, with connection to articles and quantities; and how to secure that the right articles are dispatched in the right order. Swedwood manages several hundred thousand pallets each year and needs total control over pallet management.
Why Consafe Logistics?
Because of its expertise, Consafe Logistics was an obvious choice in discussions for potential suppliers, as Swedwood knew the company offered turnkey responsibility for its solutions including software, hardware, integration and service. In addition, Extend ERP has flexible solutions that are easy to connect to MOVEX, together with an easy-to-use interface that simplified reporting from the warehouse floor. Consafe Logistics was also a verified Lawson partner.
The solution – Extend ERP
Swedwood chose Extend ERP to bring warehouse processes to mobile operatives in an easy and efficient way. All transactions are performed using mobile terminals on forklifts while all stock balances remain in Movex. In other words, Extend ERP makes MOVEX mobile. The system generates picking lists and reporting and MOVEX manages all booking before picking lists are generated to each terminal.
Processes include goods receiving, put-away, stock movement, picking, loading, stock taking, stock balance information, and labelling goods at production.
Extend ERP supports bar codes throughout the whole goods flow. Consafe Logistics adapted the system to include processes for traceability for each pallet, which is given a unique batch number. Once the number is scanned in the warehouse, the status of the pallet is immediately available including article number, quantity, position, etc.
The User Interface is also attractive and easy, using touch screens and easy to understand visuals that ensure operatives have little start-up time and no problems when moving around warehouses.
Swedwood now have full traceability of goods throughout their operations. Transaction reporting is efficient and secure, and stock balances and stock location are reported directly into the ERP system. Extend ERP enables master data to be maintained in Movex, removing the need for local data storage.
“Extend ERP has given us much better control of deliveries in the warehouses. The system enables superb traceability from pallet to customers. It simplifies our administrative process as all reporting is done from truck-mounted computers. Truck drivers find it easy to use and flexible, as the interface is very visual, enabling them to report using just a few button presses. We can now check that everything is OK and report directly into the ERP system, enabling us to invoice as soon goods leave the warehouse. Stock balance security is now extremely good”.
Johan Thuresson, Supply Chain Development, Swedwood.
“This project is fascinating as it is being implemented in many warehouses in several countries. We started with Poland and Slovakia, and now we are rolling out the system worldwide together with Swedwood. We are pleased to provide Swedwood with the control they need right down to the goods contained in any pallet, anywhere through their organisation”.
